Damessa Rodriguez was born in Brooklyn, New York and still has the spirit of the city in her. Although her first singing lesson didn’t happen until 10 years of age music played a vital role in her youth. She moved to the Orlando area in 6th grade and learned more about music and the arts at The Osceola County School for the Arts. While learning notation, professional singing techniques, and some theory she gained confidence to perform and hone her skills. During her senior year of high school she was transferred to Cypress Creek, a public school in South Orlando. This new environment opened new paths to explore, but she ultimately decided that music still captivated her heart. Since Cypress didn’t have vocal teachers or a strong chorus program she enlisted in the thespian ranks and the world of musical theater. Damessa absorbed every lesson and performance to strengthen her acting skills. After graduation she went into the world of professional acting and music.
She joined productions at the Mad Cow Theater, The Orlando Shakes in the Carmen production, Porgy & Bess, and even My Fair Lady. She found the Crvscxnt Moon collective through her connection to schoolmate Menlo Black. After considering the music that could be made, she joined. She brings both a soulful sound and resourcefulness to the group, along with her talent for composing music and playing the guitar.
